About
An old stone room with one window.
Gina Marinello
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, California. LMFT 121028.
I was trained as a family therapist, which means I was taught to look at the space between people before I look for the problem inside one of them. That is still how I see. Years of working with trauma and grief taught me the rest: that the body keeps its own account, that the story a person tells is a kind of shelter, and that nobody leaves a shelter until they trust there's ground outside it.
Outside the room I read old stories, the myths and fairy tales and the desert fathers, and I take photographs of things that hold still. Both are the same practice: paying attention long enough for what's there to show itself. I bring that to the work.
I'm a Christian, and that is the ground I work from. You'll feel it in the pacing more than hear it in the room. Clients of every faith and none are welcome; if faith is part of your life, it can have room in the work.
I live in California with my husband and our children. I keep a small caseload on purpose.
A few minutes with me
Before you decide, I want you to hear how I speak and see how I hold a room.
