Questions

Plain answers to the things people ask before the first call. If yours isn't here, ask it on the call.

Before you call.

Do you see clients outside California?
No. I'm licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and I can see you only while you're physically in California. If you travel out of state, we pause until you're back.
Is everything by video?
Yes. All sessions are by secure video through the client portal. You'll need a private place with a closed door, a stable connection, and a device with a camera. Phone sessions are available when video isn't possible.
Who do you work with?
Adults carrying trauma and grief; couples who have stopped hearing each other; and families and parents, including parents with their adult children. I don't currently see children on their own.
What does a session cost?
$175 for a fifty-minute individual session and $200 for a fifty-minute couples or family session. The first fifteen-minute call is free. Full details are on the fees page.
Do you take insurance?
I'm a private-pay practice and don't bill insurance directly. If your plan has out-of-network benefits I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for partial reimbursement; many PPO plans return a meaningful share of the fee. It's worth one call to your insurer to ask about out-of-network outpatient mental health before we start.
Is this Christian counseling?
I'm a Christian, and that is the ground I work from; you'll feel it in the pacing more than hear it in the room. Clients of every faith and none are welcome. If faith is part of your life, it can have room in the work; if it isn't, it won't be pressed on you. I don't teach, preach, or assign scripture.
What kind of therapy is this?
I was trained as a family therapist and I work in a narrative, image-led way: slowing down the story you came in with until a truer one has room to surface. I'm trained in diagnosis and use it when it helps, but a person is not a category. It's slow work. If you're looking for a specific short-term protocol, I'll gladly point you to someone who does that well.
What happens on the first call?
Fifteen minutes, by phone or video. You tell me what's brought you here; I tell you plainly whether I think I can help, and if not, who might. No pressure on either side. If it's a fit, I send intake paperwork through the client portal and we set a standing weekly time.
How soon can I start?
Usually within one to two weeks of the first call. I keep a small caseload on purpose, so there's sometimes a short wait for a standing time. I answer every inquiry within two business days.
What if I'm in crisis right now?
This practice isn't a crisis service. If you're in immediate danger, call 911. Call or text 988 any hour to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you need more than a weekly hour can hold, those lines will get you to someone faster than I can, and I'd rather you use them.
